Sittard is situated on one of the narrowest parts of Limburg and borders on Germany and Belgium. Within 5 kilometers you are in Germany and 30 minutes by bike from the market of Maaseik. Sittard has a few major events every year. Like the first and largest annual market in the Netherlands, St.Joep on March 19th. More than 350 market traders and stand workers provide a 5 km market in the city center. Or the Oktoberfest, the largest Oktoberfest in the Netherlands for a week. Of course they celebrate carnival three days and with the most famous event the opening on carnival Saturday 'Het Kanon' with many live performances on the Markt. The patroness of the city of Sint Rosa creates a traditional prosession on the last Sunday of August, with a 3-day music festival and a large art market.
